It's great being in the same town as E-Train!

Toronto, Finally

An image from Robert Hengeveld's installation at the UpArt Exhibition, which was housed in the old Gladstone Hotel in the hip west end of Toronto's downtown:

Images from The Leona Drive Project, which was an amazing installation out in the suburbs of Toronto:

Shots from the Toronto Art Fair, which had some really neat art, as well as some decorative shit. Oh well, they occupy different places on the spectrum of making and I guess the latter has a valid purpose:

Above is Allison Schulnik's painting from Mike Weiss gallery^. I love her work.

This is our waitress from a great pub, called the "Imperial Pub". This is the only place I've had 'poutine' (french fries covered with brown gravy and cheese curds) and it is amazing. Also, the bar dog named "MoMo":

Some shots on the go:

Zombies congregating in a park before Toronto's annual Zombie Walk^. It's hard to see, but this zombie's jacket said "Punk is Dead" on the back.

This is looking up at the Ontario College of Art^. It was an amazing building.

A little jazz club we found^.

Black Bean and Sausage Goulash

Ingredients

* 1 pound dried black beans
* ¾ cup olive oil
* 4 cups diced yellow onions (3 large)
* 4 cups chopped leeks, white and light green parts only (2 leeks)
* 1 tablespoon minced garlic (2 large cloves)
* 1 tablespoon kosher salt
* 1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
* 1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme leaves
* 1 teaspoon ground cumin
* 3 cups medium diced celery (8 stalks)
* 3 cups medium diced carrots (4 to 6 carrots)
* 48oz Chicken Stock
* ¼ cup tomato paste
* 1 pound sausage (sliced into 1 inch pieces)
* ½ bottle beer

Directions

In a large bowl, cover the beans with boiling water and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Drain.

In a large stockpot over medium heat, heat ½ cup olive oil (reserve ¼ cup) and sauté the onions, leeks, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme, and cumin for 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are translucent and tender. Add the celery and carrots and sauté for another 10 minutes. Add 40oz chicken stock (reserve 8oz.), tomato paste, and drained beans, cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. In another pan cook sausage in the ¼ cup reserved olive oil, until browned, then turn off stove. Check beans and add reserved 8oz chicken stock and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes. Check the seasonings. Add the sausage (meat, oil, & drippings) and beer, cover pot, and simmer for another 3 minutes. Turn off stove, and let pot sit with top on for 30 minutes and then eat!

AWESOME!!!

to try to contain oneself.

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
you were famous, your heart was a legend.
You told me again you preferred handsome men
but for me you would make an exception.
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
we are ugly but we have the music."

A message in a g-chat bottle from SK

LNY and I talked for an hour tonight and he wanted me to send his thug love to everyone.

If you don't understand who LNY is or why he'd send thug love, then don't worry about it.

update

That being said, "We have a house-guest. His name is Ripley. He enjoys sitting on my windowsill and arguing with the birds. He also enjoys staring at my speaker system when music is played loudly. He's my punk rock housemate at the moment. He cut me once. It was nasty, but I deserved it as I was shaking yarn vigorously in his direction."
In the video below you'll see Ripley taking in his surroundings.

This Brice Marden (entitled "Au Centre"), was heavily damaged while in transit from Moscow to New York. Gagosian, who owns and lent out the work, is suing the art handlers for $3million. I doubt that in five-hundred years, it's loss will create a vast hole in 20th Century Art History. $3million. It's two grey panels. Yeah...
